Syfy orders pilots from M. Night Shyamalan, Bryan Fuller

By Daniel S Levine,

After a string of poorly received films, M. Night Shyamalan, the director behind Signs and The Sixth Sense, is making the jump to television. The Oscar-nominated director is joining forces with Syfy to produce a new series called Proof.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Syfy announced that Shyamalan will co-produce the series with Buffy The Vampire Slayer producer Marti Noxon. The two will also co-write the pilot and Shyamalan will direct.

Proof will focus on a billionaire genius who offers money to those that can prove that there is life after death after his parents died in an accident.

Ashwin Rajan will co-executive produce with Shyamalan and Noxon.

Shyamalan was nominated for a Best Director Oscar for The Sixth Sense. His more recent films, like The Lady in the Water and The Last Airbender have been poorly received by critics. His latest film is After Earth with Will and Jaden Smith. It is set for a June, 2013 release.

Moxon is a TV veteran who has worked on Mad Men, Buffy and Glee.

The Hollywood Reporter reports that Syfy has also ordered a pilot for High Moon, a series produced by Pushing Daisies creator Bryan Fuller. The show was created by his Pushing Daisies collaborator Jim Danger Gray, who wrote the pilot.

The series is based on the 1969 novel The Lotus Caves by John Christopher.
