Taylor Swift’s latest single earned the best-selling digital debut for a song from a female artist.
According to Nielsen SoundScan numbers, “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” sold 623,000 copies this past week, which puts it at No. 1 on Billboard’s Digital Songs chart.
The track, the first single from her upcoming Red album, easily beat the previous record holder, which was Ke$ha’s “Tik Tok,” notes MTV News. Back in 2010, that track sold 610,000 downloads. Last year’s biggest debut for a female artist’s single was Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way,” which debuted with 448,000 copies downloaded.
Swift thanked her fans for coming out and downloading the single, which also gave her the best debut in her career. She tweeted, “I want to thank you guys for giving me my biggest first week ever with "We are Never". I can't stop smiling. You guys are amazing!!”
