‘Battlestar Galactica’ producer working on ‘A Knight’s Tale' TV adaptation for ABC

By Daniel S Levine,

A television adaptation of Heath Ledger’s 2001 film A Knight’s Tale is reportedly in development at ABC.

Deadline reported that Battlestar Galactica executive producer/developer Ron Moore has penned the pilot for Sony TV Productions. ABC bought the project, putting in a script commitment.

The original A Knight’s Tale was set in the 14th century, with Ledger starring as a peasant who pretended to be a knight. He falls in love with a princess (Shannyn Sossamon), who is at first unaware of his real background. It also starred Rufus Sewell, Paul Bettany and Mark Addy.

The film was a hit for Columbia Pictures, grossing $117.4 million worldwide, reported Coming Soon.net. It was written and directed by Brian Helgeland and featured a modern rock soundtrack. (Its tagline was “He Will Rock You.”) It also proved that the late Ledger, who was just 22 when the film was made, could be a major film star.

Moore is executive producing the series with Tall Ship Productions’ Maril Davis, Helgeland and Todd Black.
