Carrie Underwood supports hometown animal shelter

By Mallory Hatten,

When Carrie Underwood isn’t taking the country music scene by storm, she is helping to support a cause near and dear to her heart.

According to a recent report, the country megastar made a visit to her hometown in Checotah, Oklahoma and made a stop, with her mom Carole, at the local animal shelter.

The blond beauty tweeted, “Hanging out at the Checotah animal shelter! Anyone want a kitten? I think we have a few!!! Ha ha!”

Shelter director Kate Paris told PEOPLE mag, “[Carrie] comes to visit every time she comes to see her mom.” Paris also said that the mommy-daughter duo help at the shelter whenever they have the time.

The country cutie reportedly stayed at the shelter for 45-minutes while she loved on several stray animals, especially a pile of kittens that she fell in love with. Paris said, “She really cares a lot for animals.”

Carrie, who shot to super stardom after winning American Idol, is gearing up for the kickoff of her Blown Away tour this fall.
