Former NFL star Chad Johnson will likely avoid jail time after reportedly striking a plea deal with prosecutors.
Just days after entering a not guilty plea for charges of misdemeanor battery, sources told TMZ Thursday that Johnson reached a deal where he will be put on probation and will have to go to anger management counseling. In exchange, he has agreed to plead guilty or no contest.
There will also be a no-contact order that will keep him away from ex-wife Evelyn Lozada.
TMZ reports that a court hearing is set for tomorrow and a judge is expected to sign off on the deal.
Johnson was arrested after allegedly headbutting Lozada during an argument. She filed for divorce, which was finalized Wednesday. Johnson and the reality TV star were married for just 41 days.
The news comes just after Johnson appeared on Showtime’s Inside the NFL, reports Business Insider. During the interview, Johnson spoke optimistically about returning to the NFL and admitted that he is trying to make significant changes in his life.
“I gotta work on Chad. Chad's gotta work on Chad,” he said. “Chad needs to go deep down inside and figure out what went wrong...I'm taking class, Anger Management classes. I'm trying to find out how I can channel my anger...How can I diffuse those situations.”
He later added that he has “humbled myself. And when you get a humble Chad Johnson that has lost everything and has to work his way back up, you're not getting that same fun guy.”
