‘Community’ actor Donald Glover developing sitcom with NBC

By Daniel S Levine,

Community star Donald Glover is reportedly working on a new sitcom with NBC that will be loosely based on his life.

TV Guide first reported that Glover will be working with Matt Hubbard, a co-executive producer on 30 Rock. The sitcom would star Glover and NBC is committed to the project. The network is reportedly ready to sign a put pilot deal, that would force NBC to pay a high penalty if they don’t order additional episodes of the show.

Hubbard and Glover worked together as writers on 30 Rock. The two will be executive producers on the sitcom, alongside Peter Traugott and Rachel Kaplan, reports The Huffington Post.

Community fans won’t have to fear that the actor, who plays Troy Barnes, will be leaving anytime soon, though. The new sitcom is in second position for Glover, meaning that he will be back for Community this season.

Outside of Community, Glover has a Comedy Central special under his belt and also made the indie film Mystery Team. He also has a hip-hop career as Childish Gambino.

Community is entering its fourth season this fall, which will be its first after creator and showrunner Dan Harmon was unceremoniously let go. NBC ordered a 13-episode season, which will return beginning on Friday, Oct. 19 at 8:30 p.m. NBC hired David Guarascio and Moses Port to replace Harmon.
