Apparently, 20th Century Fox has a shortlist of directors for Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, the sequel to 2011’s surprise hit reboot-prequel Rise of the Planet of the Apes.
The Huffington Post reports that Guillermo del Toro and Cloverfield’s Matt Reeves are on the studio's list. Looper helmer Rian Johnson is also in contention for the coveted spot.
Reeves left the Twilight Zone movie he was supposed to direct for Warner Bros, IGN reports, freeing up his schedule to potentially direct the Apes sequel. The director apparently left the project due to scheduling conflicts.
Rupert Wyatt, who directed Rise of the Planet of the Apes, left the director’s chair earlier this month due to the release date being too soon and not having enough time to work on the project.
Other directors supposedly in contention include J. Blakeson, Juan Carlos Fresnadillo and Juan Antonio Bayona.
Dawn of the Planet of the Apes is scheduled to hit theaters May 23, 2014.
