Democrats on the web want Betty White to speak at Democratic National Convention

By Daniel S Levine,

Democrats have started online calls to get Betty White to speak at the Democratic National Convention this week in Charlotte.

A Change.org petition was posted shortly after Clint Eastwood made his infamous appearance at the Republican National Convention in Tampa last week. “Governor Romney can have Clint Eastwood and his improvisational skills because President Obama has the one and only Betty White!” Peter Slutsky of Brooklyn, NY, who stated the petition, wrote.

The petition is now up to 6,954 signatures.

A Facebook page shows even more supporters, with 27,160 likes already.

As The New York Daily News reports, the 90-year-old Hot In Cleveland star has been a supporter of President Obama and has endorsed his campaign. She visited Obama in the white House in June and even walked with the Obama family dog, Bo. Obama also contributed a recorded message that was played during her TV special for her 90th birthday.

However, unlike the RNC, the DNC’s Thursday schedule does not have any room for a special guest. Both Vice President Joe Biden and Obama are scheduled to speak that night.

Of course, White also hosted an episode of Saturday Night Live after a successful Facebook campaign, so there could still be a possibility.
