One of the memorable parts of the Emmys was a skit that involved Amy Poehler and Julia Louis-Dreyfus. At 5 foot 2 inches, Poehler may not seem like much, but make no mistake she is a comedic force of nature.
The Los Angeles Times reported that Poehler was nominated for Best Actress in a Comedy, along with Lena Dunham from Girls, Melissa McCarthy from Mike & Molly, Edie Falco from Nurse Jackie, Tina Fey from 30 Rock, Julia Louis-Dreyfus from Veep, and Zooey Deschanel from New Girl.
Louis-Dreyfus ended up winning the award, but when she got onstage and started reading her acceptance speech it became apparent that she was reading the speech Poehler had prepared for herself.
Poehler ran up on stage to give Louis-Dreyfus her actual acceptance speech, but Louis-Dreyfus found that Poehler made some additions. She thanked her husband and son before reading “Lastly, isn’t it a shame that Amy Poehler didn’t win? What?” Poehler agreed that it was a shame.
This is not the first prank Poehler staged at an Emmy award show. Last year she was nominated for the same category, but when she was called up as a nominee she walked up on stage surprising her Parks and Recreation co-star Rob Lowe and posed to the side as if it was a Miss. America beauty pageant. Her fellow nominees joined her and lined up beside her.
