Fox and NBC split ratings race, NBC draws best Democratic Convention numbers

By Daniel S Levine,

The Democratic National Convention started last night, with First Lady Michelle Obama as the headlining speaker. It was not enough to keep Fox’s Gordon Ramsay block from winning the best rating in the key demographic. NBC averaged the most viewers, though.

NBC had 7.51 million viewers, but averaged just a 1.9 18-49 rating. America’s Got Talent started with 8.33 million viewers and climbed a bit to 8.86 million for the second hour. It was only slightly down from last week’s performance show with a 2.3 18-49 rating. NBC’s DNC coverage had 5.33 million viewers and a 1.3 18-49 rating, which was about the same as the first night of the Republican Convention.

Fox came in second with 6.27 million viewers and a 2.6 18-49 rating, the best on the night. Hell’s Kitchen started the night with 6.05 million viewers and a 2.5 18-49 rating, while MasterChef followed with 6.48 million viewers and a 2.7 18-49 rating.

CBS had 5.76 million viewers and a 0.9 18-49 rating. After NCIS repeats, its DNC coverage had 3.22 million viewers and just a 0.6 18-49 rating.

ABC had 2.69 million viewers and a 0.7 18-49 rating. It also ran repeats before its DNC coverage, which had 2.59 million viewers and a 0.7 18-49 rating.

The CW’s repeats had 644,000 viewers and a 0.3 18-49 rating.

Univision had another good night with 3.6 million viewers and a 1.5 18-49 rating, better than CBS and ABC.
