The first trailer for Paramount and MGM’s Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters, which puts a new twist on the classic fairy tale from the Brothers Grimm, hit the web Tuesday.
Hansel & Gretel is set 15 years after the brother and sister duo had their fateful meeting with a witch when they were children, reported Moviefone. The two decide to team up to stop witches and other supernatural creatures with an arsenal of unique weapons (including an abundance of interesting crossbows).
The trailer shows the duo hard at work, reveals that beheading witches is the best way to get rid of them and shows Hansel dodging arrows Matrix-style.
According to Entertainment Weekly, the film stars Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton in the title roles. It was directed by Tommy Wirkola, who is best known for 2009’s Dead Snow.
The film also stars Famke Janssen, Peter Stormare and Thomas Mann.
Hansel & Gretel will hit theaters on Jan. 11, 2013. It will be Renner’s first film after he starred in two films this summer, The Avengers and The Bourne Legacy.
