Hayden Panettiere talks body dysmorphia in interview with 'Women's Health'

By Sarah Burbank-Douglas,

Hayden Panettiere reveals the trouble she felt as a young star growing up under the brutal watch of the media.

In a recent interview with Womens Health Magazine, the 23-year-old Raising Helen actress revealed that she suffered from body dysmorphia at a young age after photos of her backside were published with the word “Cellulite” stamped across them. She states, "I was mortified.…It gave me such body dysmorphia for so long. But I remember reminding myself that beauty is an opinion, not a fact. And it has always made me feel better."

According to Yahoo, body dysmorphia is defined as “perceived ugliness.”

Panettiere continues in the interview adding that she has since taught herself to be stronger, noting, “People can tell when you're happy with being you and when you're not. It's only cheesy because it's true. As I've gotten older and grown into my body, I've started realizing that the way you carry yourself and that light coming out of your eyes are the most attractive things about you."

The blonde beauty is currently starring in the upcoming series Nashville.
