The Discovery Channel's Mythbusters are constantly debunking many of popular cultures greatest myths. The most recent is whether or not both Jack and Rose could share the plank in the classic film Titanic and ultimately save Jack from an icy death. Even more surprising is that the film's director, James Cameron, has endorsed the test.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, the science nerd duo and Cameron are more concerned with the weight of two individuals, not the size of the plank itself. Recently, an internet image proved that the plank possessed enough size to fit the two in a number of ways.
"When Jack puts Rose on the raft, then he tries to get on the raft," Cameron said, "He's not an idiot, he doesn't want to die. And the raft sinks and kind of flips. So it's clear that there's only enough buoyancy available for one person. So he makes a decision to let her be that person instead of taking them both down."
“It’s interesting,” Cameron continues, “cause I think MythBusters is gonna tackle this problem, and I’m gonna help them do it, actually. We’re gonna put it to rest.”
While there is no official air date tor when the Discovery Channel will show the episode, will it even matter? Ever since the group shot a cannonball through a house, as in an ABC News report, the show has lost some of its credibility. However with a new season just around the corner, the mythbusters will be sure to rebound.
