Ricki Lake returns to talk show television Monday with The Ricki Lake Show.
Almost 20 years after the start of her syndicated program, Lake is a different women, who has lived through childbirth, marriage and divorce, causing a change to the style of her show.
“I have a specific point of view and a vision and a sense of who I am at this point in my life,” Lake told the Associated Press. “Not that I have it all figured out, but growth comes with age and life experience.”
The talk show personality started her career in 1993 at the age of 24. With a lengthy list of topics discussed previously, Lake’s goal is continue covering new ground.
“I don’t want to redo something I’ve already done, I want a new challenge, and social media didn’t exist [when the first show aired],” she explained. “It’s a whole new way of booking guests, a whole new way of finding out what the audience wants to see.”
And with evolving topics, Lake’s show format also changed.
“The old show was pretty outrageous, with people saying crazy things,” Lake told USA Weekend. “A lot of the audience saw people that they didn’t think were them….We’re not going to do that. We’re going to have a conversation.”
The Ricki Lake Show premieres Monday, 9 a.m. EST.
