Johnny Lewis, the 28–year-old actor on popular television series Sons of Anarchy, was shockingly found dead in a driveway on Wednesday after allegedly killing his landlady and her cat, which investigators now believe resulted from drug use.
ABC News reports that Los Angeles police speculate the young star was high on a new, high-end drug called “smiles” when he went on a killing spree, ultimately jumping from a rooftop to his own death.
No evidence of drugs was found at the scene, but investigators say Lewis’ behavior matched the effects high-end drug users suffer. Toxicology test results are expected to take several weeks.
According to Fox News, Lewis beat and strangled his 81-year-old property owner, leaving her dead. Before killing himself, the actor attacked several neighbors as well.
The troubled Anarchy star had been in trouble with the law prior to his demise. In the previous 10 months, Lewis had been arrested, gone through counseling and had only left jail five days before killing himself. At the time of his death, the actor was on supervised probation.
Lewis starred on Sons of Anarchy from 2008 until his character was killed off in 2009. Other television appearances include brief stints on The O.C., Boston Public and Nickelodeon’s Drake & Josh.
