‘Star Trek’ sequel named

By Meaghan Fleming,

The newest film in the Star Trek franchise will be called Star Trek Into Darkness.

Trek Movie broke the news late on Friday night and now state the name has been confirmed.

The news hit when sources discovered Paramount had purchased the domain names www.startrekintodarkness.com and www.startrekintodarknessmovie.com. The sites are not up and running yet.

The title may look a little different to Star Trek fans because it lacks a colon, unlike previous Star Trek movies.

Co-producer Damon Lindelof told MTV at Comic-con “There's no word that comes after the colon after 'Star Trek' that's cool. Not that Star Trek: Insurrection or First Contact aren't good titles, it's just that everything that people are turned off about when it comes to Trek is represented by the colon."

Unfortunately for fans, the title reveals nothing about the plot and the cast and crew are not leaking spoilers. Fans are still trying to decipher Sherlock star Benedict Cumberbatch’s character, most guessing Khan, or Gary Mitchell according to Indie Wire.

Today marks 46 years of the beloved franchise.

The movie will open in theaters on May 17th, 2013.
