As Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week came to a close on Thursday in New York, fashion lovers were invited to Rachel Zoe’s American Express Exclusive Cardmember-Only event where she presented her Spring 2013 Collection.
Not only were cardholders privy to a runway show of her new spring line, but the memorable evening also included pre-show cocktails and a candid Q&A session with Zoe and designer Prabal Gurung.
During her conversation with Gurung, Zoe, former stylist-turned designer, shared her inspiration for the collection as “Jane Birkin on the Amalfi Coast." Her love for "60’s and 70’s ease" with “nothing too complicated” moved her to create pieces that are wearable but also have longevity.
This explains why Zoe’s spring line reflected a glamorous, carefree feel but with contemporary style. Starting with a palette of black and white, tailored suit jackets were paired with a floor-skimming drawstring skirt and skinny Bermudas.
The collection then moved to neutrals and brighter hues of orange and deep turquoise but maintained her effortless expression. Chiffon jumpsuits and breezy maxi dresses made an impression, along with shorts and striped ensembles.
Black and white returned for the conclusion of the show but with prints and lots of sparkle. Sequined dresses in various, very feminine silhouettes, an evening skirt with a draped half-tucked T-shirt and a sequined top with little leather shorts rounded out Zoe’s finale.
Simple hats, belts and oversized colorful totes complemented the styles while adding a bit of refinement. The surprise adornment of the evening was the return of the belted purse, otherwise known as the fanny pack. A look not just anyone could revive, but Zoe’s versions were spot on in black leather and ivory and tan snake embellished with gold hardware. A final uncomplicated detail that surely made this collection one to forward to.
