Wednesday night’s premiere of the X Factor was everything fans were hoping for and more. With laughter, tears, heartbreak and joy, thousands of hopefuls took the stage to perform in front of judges Demi Lovato, Britney Spears, Simon Cowell and L.A. Reid. But there was one female contestant who happened to share a strikingly similar, depression filled history with Lovato.
MTV News reported that Jillian Jensen, 19, was the last contestant to appear on the two-hour television event. With a rugged, rocker girl façade, the audience was surprised to learn that the teen was a victim of bullying throughout high school.
Jensen held up her wrist to reveal a tattoo matching Lovato’s and said, “This was totally by coincidence, I swear, but I happened to get a tattoo that happens to say, ‘stay strong,’”
According to the Huffington Post, Jensen’s performance of Jessie J’s “Who You Are” left the entire judging panel in tears. Demi told the singer, “When you sang, you broke my heart. I can’t wait for the bullies at home to see this.”
And more than just the show’s judges agreed with the “Give Your Heart A Break” singer. Teen pop sensation Cody Simpson tweeted, “watching X Factor. Congratulations @ItsJillJensen, that was inspiring. #StopBullying #DefeatTheLabel.”
