50 Shades of Grey coming to the big screen

By Matt Dworman,

It was only a matter of time before the biggest book of the year made its way into movie theaters.

Deadline has confirmed that Universal Pictures has hired Kelly Marcel to write the script for the adaptation of 50 Shades of Grey.  E.L. James, the author of the novel had a strong say on who would write the adaptation.

Marcel does not have a lot on her resume right now.  On IMDb she is credited with creating the short-lived show Terra Nova and also has a movie, Saving Mr. Banks, that is being filmed right now.

The rights to make this novel into a movie has created one of the biggest auctions ever.  Deadline also reported that Universal bought the rights for nearly $3 million dollars.  As of now Mike DeLuca and Dana Brunetti have signed on to produce the film. They are best known for producing The Social Network.

It seems like Universal is betting that this is going to be a big hit for them. All that is left now is to make the movie.
