ABC Family said today that it has renewed its hit series Pretty Little Liars for a fourth season.
Deadline reports that the show was picked up for a full 24-episode season that will start in mid 2013.
The series is easily the biggest success for the network, drawing the most viewers aged 12-34 (2.6 million; 2.8 rating) on cable during the summer. It was also the top show among females 12-34 (2.2 million; 5.0 rating) and the top scripted cable show among women 18-34 (1.2 million; 3.7 rating) and female teens (1 million; 8.6 rating).
Pretty Little Liars is produced by Alloy Entertainment and Warner Horizon Television. Its ensemble cast includes Lucy Hale, Ashley Benson, Troian Bellisario, Holly Marie Combs, Laura Leighton and Chad Lowe.
According to E! News, before the fourth season starts, PLL fans will get a special Halloween episode that will air on Oct. 23.
“If you enjoyed last year's, it's just going to be leaps and bounds [better]. It's no holds barred. It's amazing what they did this year,” Bellisario told E! about the Halloween special. “I think we're still paying for it in terms of the budget. The costumes are much better this year, the location is out of this world, and the stakes are much, much higher.”
The second half of season three begins in January.
