'American Idol' production releases statement in light of Nicki Minaj-Mariah Carey feud, Steven Tyler weighs in (Video)

By Sarah Burbank-Douglas,

Rumors of a tension filled judging table surfaced almost immediately after singer Nicki Minaj was rumored to join the American Idol team alongside Mariah Carey, but no one thought the drama would continue to boil.

Fans could never assume the war of words that would ensue between the two divas, especially since the two debunked rumors stating that rumors of a feud were simply that, rumors. And then things escalated Friday when Carey confessed to ABC’s Barbara Walters that she fears Minaj would “shoot her.”

Now, Entertainment Weekly reports that theAI production team is escalating trouble by releasing a statement saying, ““This is one of the best, most passionate, dynamic and invested judging panels we’ve ever had. We love and support all of the judges and the fantastic work they are doing, and we can’t imagine a better group to find the next American Idol. Despite all the accusations and media speculation — much of which is inaccurate — production is going extremely well today and the judges are focused on finding the best talent here in Baton Rouge.”

Minaj has denied threatening Carey via Twitter, and former Idol judge, Steven Tyler, tells TMZ that the whole bit seems staged for ratings.

So, what do you think? Is the Minaj v. Carey feud something real or something concocted by media and production simply for ratings?

Check out what Tyler had to say in the video below:
