Bruno Mars will host ‘Saturday Night Live,’ debuts single ‘Locked Out Of Heaven’

By Daniel S Levine,

Bruno Mars is gearing up to release his follow-up to his hit debut album, Doo-Wops & Hooligans. On Monday, he debuted the first single from his sophomore album, Unorthodox Jukebox and was also announced as a Saturday Night Live host.

According to MTV, Mars gave fans a first listen to “Locked Out Of Heaven” during a Google+ hangout with his production team, Philip Lawrence and Ari Levine. The track retains the Motown influences that were evident throughout his first album and pairs that with a modern dance beat.

He told a fan that his favorite line in the song was “But swimming in your water is something spiritual,” noting that it fits in well with the entire new album. He said the overall theme of Unorthodox Jukebox is “sensual, sensual and sensual.”

Entertainment Weekly reports that SNL producers announced that Mars will be one of three guest hosts this October. On Oct. 6, Daniel Craig will host with musical guest Muse. Christina Applegate will host Oct. 13 with Passion Pit.

Mars will host and perform on the Oct. 20 episode. It will be the first time he will perform “Locked Out Of Heaven” live.

“It's incredibly flattering,” Mars said about getting the job. “You have to have fun. For the first time ever live, I'm going to sing that song, so no pressure.”

Unorthodox Jukebox will be released on Dec. 11.
