He later gave a shout out to the teacher who helped him for months, writing, “Thank you to my teacher Kim Janzen for spending the last 5 months working tirelessly with me!! OVO SOUND.”
According to MTV News, Drake had to drop out of school when he took a role in the Canadian series Degrassi: The Next Generation at age 15. He starred as James "Jimmy" Brooks for seven seasons and 138 episodes until 2009.
Drake explained in a Complex interview last year that he dropped out of high school to help his family. “My mother was very sick. We were poor, like broke,” he told the site, notes MTV. “The only money I had coming in was off of Canadian TV, which isn't that much money when you break it down ... A season of Canadian television is under a teacher's salary, I'll tell you that much.”
