Ewan McGregor’s next project takes him to Australia for a thriller titled Son of a Gun.
According to Variety, the film will be the debut feature for Julius Avery. The director’s 2008 film Jerrycan won the Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival and received the Australian Film Institute's Best Short Film Award.
British production company Altitude Film Entertainment will sell the project internationally, reports the Hollywood Reporter. UTA Film Group will handle North American distribution sales. Hopscotch/eOne already secured Australia and New Zealand distribution rights.
In the film, billed as a fast-paced heist thriller, McGregor stars as Australia’s public enemy number one, who has a complicated relationship with his protege.
Avery also penned the script. Timothy White of Southern Light Films will produce, with Media House Capital’s Aaron L. Gilbert executive producing.
Altitude Film Sales managing director Mike Runagall promised that the film combines “tension and intensity of Animal Kingdom with the epic sweep of Heat.”
McGregor recently starred in Salmon Fishing on the Yemen and Haywire. His The Impossible hits theaters later this year and he is currently working on Jack the Giant Killer.
