'Fifty Shades of Grey' adaptation finds a writer

By Matthew Dougherty,

It appears that the inevitable Fifty Shades of Grey film adaptation is officially on its way as Kelly Marcel has been hired to write the script.

E.L. James, author of the wildly popular novel, revealed the news on her Twitter, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

“We were all taken with the depth and passion of Kelley's engagement with the characters and world E L James has created and we knew she was the right person to augment our Fifty Shades family,” producer Dana Brunetti said.

ComingSoon.net comments that Marcel’s writing credits include the pilot episode for FOX’s science fiction series Terra Nova and the upcoming film Saving Mr. Banks.

The latter is the story of how Walt Disney Pictures pursued the rights to adapt the novel of Mary Poppins, by P.L. Travers, for two decades. It will hit theaters some point in 2013.

As for Fifty Shades of Grey, there is no word yet to when it will hit theaters, or if the sequels will make it to the big screen as well.
