Johnny Depp and Armie Hammer star in the adaptation of the 1950’s classic television series The Lone Ranger, which got its first trailer today.
The new preview for the film appeared on iTunes earlier this morning.
According to ComingSoon.net, the new film follows the title character’s sidekick Tonto, played by Depp, as he recounts the story of how John Reid became the Lone Ranger, played by Armie Hammer.
Gore Verbinski and Jerry Bruckheimer will reunite as respective director and producer from the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise for the new Western action flick.
Much like that franchise, The Lone Ranger was produced by Walt Disney Pictures.
The film also stars William Fichter, Tom Wilkinson and Helena Bonham Carter.
The Lone Ranger has been in what many call “development hell” before finally finding its footing at Disney.
The production most recently made headlines when a crew member tragically drowned while preparing to shoot an underwater action sequence.
The film is scheduled to hit theaters July 3, 2013. Check out the new trailer below!
