Maybe Simon Cowell can learn to like baseball after all. Fox said earlier this week that live shows for The X Factor will kick off earlier than planned because the San Francisco Giants wrapped up the World Series so quickly.
The Giants completed a sweep of the Detroit Tigers Sunday night, giving Fox plenty of room to play with its primetime schedules. So, rather than wait until Thursday to let the Top 16 perform live for the first time, Fox has decided to start tonight, reports MTV News.
On Monday, the show’s Facebook page shared the news with fans, revealing that the episode will be two hours and seven minutes, starting at 8pm. On Thursday, Fox will reveal the finalists in a live, tape-delayed hour-long episode.
Tonight’s episode will also feature the debut of Khloe Kardashian Odom and Extra’s Mario Lopez as co-hosts.
Since there was no Game 5 on Monday, Fox aired a repeat of the ‘Judges’ Home’ round.
The last time baseball made an impact on The X Factor, Cowell was not happy. A rain delay during Game 3 of the NLCS forced Fox to air an abbreviated episode that was 40 minutes late. Cowell called it “a total f up” on Twitter.
As for the contestants, Cowell says that they are some of the best singers he has ever seen on the show. “The groups are a million times better than last year,” he said, reports TV Guide. “Some of them I could really, really see having a big future outside this competition.”
