Oscar-winning actor Martin Landau and Virginia Madsen have joined Lifetime’s upcoming biopic on Anna Nicole Smith.
Madsen, who was nominated for an Oscar for Sideways, will play Smith’s mother, Virgie, who raised her, reports Deadline.
Landau will star as J. Howard Marshall, the 89-year-old oil tycoon that Smith married when she was 26. After he died, Smith was forced to fight in court for a decade for his estate.
The news comes a day after former Private Practice actress Agnes Bruckner was cast to play Smith.
The film, titled The Anna Nicole Smith Story and written by John Rice and Joe Batteer, will tell the story of Vicky Lynn Hogan, who came from a small Texas town and eventually became Anna Nicole Smith, Playboy’s Playmate of the Year 1993. In 2007, she died of an overdose.
Sony Pictures TV and Craig Zadan and Neil Meron’s Storyline Entertainment are producing.
Landau won an Oscar for Tim Burton’s Ed Wood. He recently re-teamed with Burton to voice a character in Frankenweenie, which opens Friday.
Madsen recently appeared on AMC’s Hell on Wheels and has several upcoming films, including Long Time Gone and The Last Keepers.
