Miley Cyrus was one of many A-list names being thrown around when both X Factor and American Idol were searching for their newest judges. Miley, 19, didn’t end up filling an empty judge’s chair on either show. Miley recently admitted she had been approached, but she doesn’t think she would have been a good fit for something like that.
According to Entertainmentwise, Cyrus recently appeared on The Tonight Show and told host Jay Leno that she wouldn’t want to be a judge, like fellow former Disney star Demi Lovato who is on The X Factor, because she wouldn’t want to feel like she was responsible for crushing someone’s dream.
“I don’t know if I want to be a dream crusher,” she said. “Would you really want to sit there and someone’s, like, belting their heart out, even if it’s like hearing nails on a chalkboard, could you really say, ‘you suck?’ You can’t. You have to be like, ‘keep working for it and trying’, but I have no filter, so I don’t know if I could. I would be scared I would say something.”
Miley says she’s afraid her honesty would cause contestants to “go home and say, ‘Miley Cyrus ruined my dreams of ever doing anything greater than my small town.’” She says it’s something she “can’t” do to people.
Jay Leno pointed out that being a judge also gives her the opportunity to discover the next big talent, but she still wasn’t convinced.
“To say yes to someone, you have to say no to the other person. It just seems harsh.”
