Nelly releases statement after heroin, weed and gun found on tour bus

By Sarah Burbank-Douglas,

Rapper Nelly was arrested Thursday after his tour bus was searched in Sierra Blanca, Texas which revealed heroin, marijuana as well as weapons.

The highly publicized incident took place while the singer traveling through Texas and stopped at a routine citizenship check. Police searched the vehicle and that’s when the illegal items were revealed.

Brian Keith Jones, one of the passengers on the bus, came forward stating that the drugs and guns were his. Nelly along with the other men who were detained were let go shortly thereafter. Now the singer, whose real name is Cornell Iral Haynes, has released a statement regarding the incident.

“It is my understanding a member of my staff made an unfortunate decision to bring unlawful materials onto our tour bus that resulted in his arrest this morning, October 11th. Neither I nor anyone else on the tour bus was aware of his decision to bring these on board. Law enforcement officials in Sierra Blanca, Texas did not press charges against anyone other than that individual,” the statement reads as reported by MTV.

According to the report, dogs sniffed out the illegal substances which revealed a “small plastic container containing marijuana, and (36) very small Ziploc bags containing [.64 ounces of] Heroin and a loaded .45 cal pistol."

Nelly is not the first person to be arrested at the inspection spot, earlier this month “Criminal” singer Fiona Apple’s tour bus revealed a significant amount of hash which sent the singer to jail. Armie Hammer, Snoop Dogg and Willie Nelson were all arrested at the same inspection point.
