Rapper Nelly was the latest celebrity to get caught with drugs on his tour bus at a border check point in Sierra Blanca, Texas. But the “Hot in Herre” singer claims that he had no idea that there were controlled substances on his tour bus.
TMZ, which first confirmed the incident, reported that the 37-year-old rapper claims that he was “unaware” that there were any drugs on his bus.
“It is my understanding a member of my staff made an unfortunate decision to bring unlawful materials onto our tour bus that resulted in his arrest,” Nelly said in a statement. “Neither I nor anyone else on the tour bus was aware of his decision to bring these on board. Law enforcement officials did not press charges against anyone other than that individual.”
According to MTV News, border patrol stopped the bus for a routine citizen check on Wednesday night. Officers detained Nelly after a police dog detected the presence of controlled substances.
Border patrol agents discovered 0.64 ounces of heroin distributed among 36 small plastic bags, more than 10 pounds of marijuana and a loaded .45-caliber pistol. Although Nelly and five other individuals who were on the bus at the time were detained, they were eventually released when a man named Brian Keith Jones reportedly admitted that the illegal items were his. Keith was subsequently arrested.
Nelly joins the slew of celebrities who have found themselves in hot water with border patrol in Sierra Blanca. Willie Nelson, Snoop Dogg, and Fiona Apple have all been busted for illegal drug possession.
