Oprah Winfrey has joined forces with Tyler Perry to bring some of his scripted series to OWN.
The duo made the announcement on Monday, noting that the network would be the “singular destination” for any scripted series created by Perry. It would also mark the first scripted series to come to Winfrey’s network.
“I have been looking forward to the day when we would be in the position to enter the world of scripted television. That day has come,” Winfrey announced in a statement, The Los Angeles Times reports.
“We are all energized by the opportunity to collaborate with Tyler who has a proven track record for producing highly successful cable series. He has an incredible ability to illuminate life stories and characters in his unique voice and inspires and encourages people all over the world.”
OWN has been seeing a spike in ratings lately, due to interviews with Rihanna, the Kardashian family and more.
For his part, Perry called joining forces with Winfrey “a dream realized,” according to The Huffington Post.
Perry, who already has Tyler Perry’s House of Payne, Meet the Browns and For Better or Worse on TBS, will executive produce, write and direct the shows.
