Regis Philbin rates new ‘Live!’ co-host Michael Strahan

Regis Philbin caught up with reporters on Thursday at Exploring the Arts Gala in New York City, and the former Live! with Regis and Kelly co-host revealed his thoughts on Kelly Ripa’s new co-host, Michael Strahan.

Philbin told Us Weekly of the former NFL star, “He’s got a good sense of humor. He’s a good guy. I think they’re doing great.”

Philbin announced his resignation from the popular morning show in September 2011, leaving ABC to find a fitting replacement. Months and months of guest co-hosting ensued, but producers ultimately picked the fun-loving, laid-back 40-year-old Strahan. “I was more nervous getting out of the limo today [to begin on Live!] then coming out of any tunnel,” Strahan admitted after his September 4 Live! debut. “At least there I have a mask to hide behind, here it’s just me.”

And how does Ripa feel about her new sidekick? According to the Chicago Sun-Times, Ripa said, “I wear my heart on my sleeve, so it’s pretty obvious that I love him."

Live! airs weekdays at 8:00 a.m. EST on ABC.
