Richard Mourdock: Pregnancy from rape is 'God's will'

By Sarah Burbank-Douglas,

With the political debates wrapped up, Republican Indiana Senate hopeful Richard Mourdock took to the platform to explain his view on rape in cases of rape and abortion stating that neither is a cause for an abortion because it was “God’s plan.”

Currently running against Democrat Joe Donnelly and Libertarian Andrew Horning, Mourdock stood firm on his view that life begins at conception and that the only exception in his eyes would be in a situation where the mother’s life is in danger, TPM Livewire reports.

He continued, holding back tears, “I've struggled with it myself for a long time, but I came to realize that life is that gift from god. And even when life begins in that horrible situation of rape, that it is something that God intended to happen."

Mourdock’s claims join the likes of Missouri Representative Todd Akin who also took a stance against abortion, stating that if a woman was legitimately raped her body “has a way of trying to shut that whole thing down.”
