Sam Champion engaged to boyfriend Rubem Robierb

Sam Champion, the weather anchor for Good Morning America, has announced the exciting news that he and his Brazilian boyfriend, Rubem Robierb, are engaged to be married.

ABC News reported on Friday that the couple announced their engagement.

Champion met Robeirb through mutual friends a couple years ago. Robeirb, who was born in Maranhão, Brazil, is a fine-arts photographer who has showcased his work Miami, Atlanta, Santa Monica and New York.

The 51-year-old anchor released a statement for all of his well-wishers. "We are thrilled and so excited, and thank everyone for their good wishes."

Champion also tweeted that he has “never been happier to share a bit of personal news!!”

The GMA anchor first publicly addressed his sexuality to the New York Times, when he spoke of his marriage plans at colleague Thomas Roberts' wedding over the weekend.

The two plan to marry in Miami later this year, but the exact date still seems to be up in the air.
