Sam Lufti's defamation trial continues, says Britney Spears was in 'crisis mode' during time of head shaving incident

The defamation lawsuit regarding Britney Spears and her former manager, Sam Lufti, continued on Tuesday, with the X Factor judge’s parents, Jamie and Lynne Spears, the subject of a lawsuit filed by Lufti.

Lufti alleges that he was painted as a villain and an enabler for Spears during 2007, a time of personal turmoil for her, but he is testifying that he was protecting her from paparazzi and other hazardous things in her life. He says he was defamed in Lynne’s book when she wrote about him exploiting her daughter’s vulnerability during a dark time.

Fox News reported that Lufti testified today that not only did Spears have drug problems at the time, but she was in "in crisis mode. She was very distraught. She was having a child custody battle and was in the middle of a divorce."

"She was dealing with a lot of anxiety," he said about the time of her public meltdown, when she publicly shaved her head and bashed in Kevin Federline’s car with an umbrella.

Jamie and Lynn, who are divorced, allege that Lufti, who referred to himself as their daughter’s manager at the time, tipped off the paparazzi so they could get shots of Spears.

But he says he did that to keep a safe distance and explained:

"I also started setting up meetings at her home with press photographers so they could get to know her as a human being.”

Previously during the trial, Lufti has said Spears was addicted to methamphetamines.

“Most of the things that went wrong related to that habit. My client sometimes spent 24 hours a day to prevent Britney from using drugs,” his lawyer said.
