Fans were intrigued to see the usually long-locked Anne Hathaway not only chop off her beautiful brunette hair but buzz it into a pixie cut for her role in the Tom Hopper directed musical, Les Miserables.
According to Us Weekly, Hathaway admitted to awaiting first-screening audience members that when she finally looked into the mirror to see her cut, “I just thought I looked like my gay brother," she confesses.
Not only did Hathaway undergo a massive hair-do change, she also had to slim down her already tiny frame to present that of the tuberculosis-ridden dying prostitute. She confessed to Vogue the strict did she put herself on to lose 25 pounds which consisted of an oatmeal paste square she consumed twice a day. Looking back now she realizes it was a bit “obsessive.”
“I had to be obsessive about it--the idea was to look near death," Hathaway reveals. "Looking back on the whole experience--and I don't judge it in any way---it was definitely a little nuts. It was definitely a break with reality, but I think that’s who Fantine is anyway."
Les Miserables, costarring Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe and Amanda Seyfried opens December 25.
