Anne Hathaway opens up about confidence over landing 'Les Miserables' role, but feeling 'overwhelmed' when filming

Anne Hathaway graces the cover of the December issue of Vogue, where she opens up about her role in the film adaptation of Les Miserables.

Hathaway, 30, says that playing the role of Fantine had its challenges, and her husband Adam Schulman helped her through them.

While she had to lose 25 pounds to play the role of the sickly mother who was forced into becoming a prostitute, Hathaway said she went into a “state of deprivation, physical and emotional,” The Huffington Post reports.

Hathaway even revealed to the magazine, “When I got home, I couldn’t react to the chaos of the world without being overwhelmed [...] It took me weeks till I felt like myself again."

However, the actress shared her confidence that the role was hers after she auditioned, explaining she “knew that someone was going to have to go in there and do something pretty special to unseat me.”

She added, “Sometimes you leave a room and you feel like maybe you’ve left the door open a crack. This time, I knew that I had slammed it shut behind me.”
