Newlywed Anne Hathaway, 29, has been under much scrutiny for her drastic weight loss and eerily frail frame since taking on the role of a dying prostitute named Fantine for the movie adaptation of Les Miserables. And the actress admits she became “obsessive” over shedding the nearly 25 pounds.

Us Weekly reports that the brunette beauty sat down for an interview in the December issues of Vogue where she discussed the intense role and her determination to look the part.
The actress admitted to losing 10 pounds before production began and another 15 by eating nothing but two thin squares of dried oatmeal paste a day during a two-week break from filming.
“I had to be obsessive about it – the idea was to look near death,” Hathaway said. “Looking back on the whole experience – and I don’t judge it in any way – it was definitely a little nuts. It was definitely a break with reality, but I think that’s who Fantine is anyway.”
The actress went on the admit, “I was in such a state of deprivation – physical and emotional. When I got home, I couldn’t react to the chaos of the world without being overwhelmed. It took me weeks till I felt like myself again.”
And even though Hathaway doesn’t plan to revert to a lifestyle of pure starvation, she does plan on keeping one aspect of her physical transformation – her haircut.
“I love the short-haired lifestyle,” the actress said. “It’s awesome that I was able to go for a hike right before I came here to meet you, quickly wash my hair, and now it’s dry.”
