Ariel Winter will remain with her sister Shanelle Gray

By Sarah Burbank-Douglas,

Modern Family actress Ariel Winter and her mother Chrisoula “Crystal” Workman appeared in court Tuesday to discuss allegations of physical and emotional abuse and with whom the 14-year-old actress would reside.

People reports after the court heard both sides, the guardianship was awarded to Ariel’s older sister, Shanelle Gray. According to the report, the Department of Children and Family Services found evidence of “emotional abuse” but did not however find anything substantial to support Ariel’s claims of physical abuse. As we previously reported, the investigators were having trouble finding evidence prior to the appearing in court.
Shanelle was also recommended to be awarded full guardianship over her sister.

Workman’s attorney, Anita Gumm, argued that Shanelle was “too young” and that she had her own family to tend to. Gumm also contested that Shanelle and her husband are only in it for the money. However, prior reports confirmed that Shanelle never questioned the court about her sister's finances and did not contest that her account was sealed from everyone.

"We implore the court to send the kid to her dad," Gumm stated. "Being a controlling mother doesn't mean [my client] is unfit."

Judge Michael Levanas insisted, “I don't think she has ulterior motives.”
Yesterday, Ariel’s father, Glenn, came forward suggesting that he be awarded custody of his daughter. Although Glenn and Chrystal are not divorced, they have been separated for quite some time.

Shanelle and Ariel are expected back in court where a permanent guardian will be named.
