Great news for Boy Meets World fans. It looks like a Disney Channel pilot of a spin-off, Girl Meets World, will feature the original actors of Cory Matthews and Topanga Lawrence -- Ben Savage and Danielle Fishel.
There have been rumors of a spin-off, but it wasn’t confirmed that Savage and Fishel would be returning.
TV Line now reports that this spin-off will be told in the point of view of Cory and Topanga’s 13-year-old daughter Riley. It will pick up more than 10 years after the original went off the air.
The original executives are back as well, as the Boy Meets World creator and executive producer Michael Jacobs is leading the way.
The pilot is in the early stages of development, but Savage and Fishel will definitely be returning.
EW breaks down the rest of the casting, revealing that a character named Maya Nolastname will be Riley’s best friend – much like Shawn was to Cory in the original.
The character breakdown of Riley says she’s “an adorable girl on the cusp of whatever comes next in life, and wanting to rush into it head first.”
The description adds, “She is fiercely loyal to her friends, and spends most of her time juggling the obstacles that life throws her way, some of those being her father who is also her seventh grade history teacher, her mother who is Topanga, and her brother, Elliot, who is one grade older in school and in life experience and makes sure to always let her know it.”
Maya is described as a similar character to what Shawn was, saying “Dark and edgy, but just as fiercely loyal to Riley as Riley is to her.”
