HBO has bought a documentary about pop star Beyonce Knowles, who directed the film herself. The documentary will air on the network in February.
The New York Times reports that HBO has called the documentary “intimate” and “revealing.” They also say that the cameras were given “unprecedented access” into Beyonce’s life.
The documentary will include footage that the “Single Ladies” singer made with her laptop with plenty of concert footage and home movies in the mix.
“Some of my favorite shows are on HBO, so I am excited that my film will be part of its bold programming. This film was so personal to me, it had to have the right home,” Beyonce said in a statement, reports People.
Michael Lombardo, president of programming at HBO, added, “Everybody knows Beyoncé's music, but few know Beyoncé the person...Along with electrifying footage of Beyoncé onstage, this unique special looks beyond the glamour to reveal a vibrant, vulnerable, unforgettable woman.”
Beyonce has certainly been more open about her life with husband Jay-Z and their first child, Blue Ivy, recently. Over Thanksgiving, she shared photos of the couple with Blue Ivy on her Tumblr blog.
The documentary will air on Feb. 16. Beyonce is scheduled to perform the Super Bowl halftime show on Feb. 3.
