‘Big Bang Theory’ ratings skyrocket, while ‘The Office’ hits new low

Thursday’s ratings showed that one established sitcom is on the rise, while another continues to reach new lows during its last season. CBS’ The Big Bang Theory drew the most viewers in the show’s history and NBC’s The Office sunk to a new low in the ratings.

CBS dominated the night, drawing 13.62 million viewers and a 3.4 18-49 rating. Big Bang started with a whopping 17.4 million viewers and a 5.5 18-49 rating. According to Entertainment Weekly, the show’s success Thursday was surprising, especially when the network’s usually see a holiday ratings dip.

Big Bang gave the rest of CBS’ night a significant boost. Two and a Half Men had 13.9 million viewers and a 4.1 18-49 rating, while Person of Interest had 14.5 million and a 3.1 18-49 rating. Elementary closed off the night with 10.7 million viewers and a 2.3 18-49 rating.

ABC came in second with just 6.875 million viewers and a 2.2 18-49 rating, notes HitFix. Last Resort had 5.82 million viewers and a 1.3 18-49 rating. Grey’s Anatomy drew 8.66 million viewers and a 3.1 18-49 rating and Scandal was up to 6.14 million viewers and a 2.1 rating.

Fox had 6.28 million viewers and a 2.2 18049 rating as well. The X Factor had 7.3 million viewers and a 2.4 18-49 rating, a 4 percent jump. Glee dropped to 5.28 million viewers and a 2.1 18-49 rating.

NBC had a mixed night, drawing 3.7 million viewers and a 1.4 18-49 rating. 30 Rock had 3.41 million viewers and a 1.2 18-49 rating, while Up All Night had 3.12 million viewers and a 1.3 18-49 rating. The Hollywood Reporter notes that The Office fell 17 percent from last week, drawing just 4.1 million viewers and a 2.0 18-49 rating, setting a new series low. Parks & Recreation had 3.6 million viewers and a 1.1 18-49 rating. Rock Center was up to 4 million and a 1.1 key demo rating.

The CW’s Vampire Diaries drew 2.8 million viewers and a 1.2 18-49 rating, while Beauty and the Beast followed with 1.6 million and a 0.6 rating.
