A Buffalo Bills fan who was ejected during Thursday’s game was found dead Friday morning.
Orchard Police told local NBC affiliate WGRZ that the 26-year-old man, who was reported missing after the game, was found near Ralph Wilson Stadium, where the NFL team plays. Officials would not reveal his identity, but did say that he is not from the area.
Police found the man in a creek near the stadium thanks to his cell phone. They “pinged” the phone, which was discovered nearby.
According to The AP, the man’s brother had told police he was ejected from the game for being intoxicated. When he could not find him after the game, he went to police to report his brother missing.
The man’s family later told WHEC that his name is David Gerken Jr. His family explained that after he left the game, he did tell his brother he was heading to a bar, then climbed a fence. He fell and hit his head.
“We are deeply saddened to hear of this news this morning, the Bills later said in a statement. “While the loss of life is always tragic, the loss of a young life is even more so. Our heartfelt condolences go out to the family. We are currently cooperating with law enforcement officials to find out the details of this unfortunate incident.”
