By Matthew Dougherty,

A Thanksgiving classic has seen a bit of a revival this year as A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving performed better this year in the ratings than it has in the last four.

According to Entertainment Weekly, the Peanuts' special saw a 22 percent increase in viewers over last year. It had 8.1 million viewers and a 2.2 rating in the 18-49 demographic.

Talk TV World says that the show came in second overall for the night losing to Survivor: Philippines on CBS.

A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving premiered on CBS November 20, 1973 and has been a staple in Primetime television for the holiday since. Last night it aired on ABC.

The nights leading up to Thanksgiving are a highly competitive part of November sweeps.

CBS aired the show until 1992. In 2001, all of the Peanuts specials moved to ABC.

A recent Blu ray/DVD combo pack was released by Warner home video in 2010.

Charles M. Schulz created the Peanuts comic strip back in 1950 and ran until 2000.
