Chevy Chase to leave 'Community' in fourth season

By Matthew Dougherty,

After months of controversy throughout the end of season three and the filming of season four, Chevy Chase, who plays Pierce Hawthorne on NBC's cult comedy Community, is leaving the show, supposedly due to an agreement with the producers.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Chase will appear in all but two episodes of the 13-episode-long fourth season. One of the episodes he will be appearing in is the finale.

IGN says that the actor has always had a rocky relationship with the show's producers, citing the very public feud with series creator Dan Harmon earlier this year.

Harmon was fired by NBC after the dispute.

Since then, Community has had more troubles going into the fall TV season. Originally it was supposed to air Fridays at 8:30 p.m., but once NBC figured out which new fall shows they would be keeping, they delayed it until February 7, 2013.

The fourth season will only feature 13 episodes, unlike the previous three which had over 20 episodes each.
