Coldplay announced Monday that they will join Jay-Z for a very special show at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn on New Year’s Eve. The group also scheduled two other shows in the US for the days leading up to Dec. 31.
The band shared the news on its web site. They will play at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut on Dec. 29 and will play at the Barclays Center on Dec. 30. Natturally 7 has been picked for the group’s support acts for both shows.
The new dates follow a successful international tour to support their latest album, Mylo Xyloto, which was released last year. According to AceShowBiz, the New York dates will be their first shows there since 2005.
Jay-Z has been a long collaborator and friend of the band, having performed with them in Las Vegas in 2010. They also performed together at the 2012 Paralympic Games Closing Ceremony this past summer.
“We're from very different backgrounds. But we love the same stuff everyone else loves,” frontman Chris Martin told Pitchfork at the time, notes AceShowBiz.
Fans can purchase tickets for the Connecticut show starting Friday at 10am. The Brooklyn shows will go on sale Saturday at 10am.
Coldplay’s next release is Coldplay Live 2012, a CD and DVD collection. The film will be screened in theaters worldwide on Tuesday with the collection being released next week.
