A teen from Colorado has been arrested for showing up to Century Boulder Theater in Boulder in a Joker mask, essentially forcing movie-goers to flee the theater in fear.
The teen is a minor at 17 years old, so his name has not been revealed, but he was arrested on Sunday and charged with five counts of misdemeanor menacing.
According to The Daily Mail, the teen told authorities he was simply trying to scare his friend, but the incident has hit too close to home for some, still reeling from the July 20 shooting in Aurora.
“The group who reported the incident was so frightened that they ran from the theater, according to the theater’s manager,” police told The NY Daily News. “Officers responded to the theater and contacted the suspect.”
Police also say the suspect, who plans to dress as the Joker for Halloween next year, was taken to a juvenile detention center.
James Holmes, the shooter who killed 12 people and wounded 58 in July, faces 166 counts of murder, attempted murder and other charges.
