The CW’s Beauty and the Beast reboot has been picked up for a full season.
The series stars Smallville’s Kristin Kreuk and Terra Nova’s Jay Ryan and is a remake of the late 1980s series that starred Linda Hamilton and Ron Perlman.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the supernatural crime drama saw a 9 percent jump in the ratings for Thursday night’s episode in the 18-49 ratings demographic. So far, the series has averaged 2.4 million viewers a night.
The series is produced by CBS TV Studios.
Entertainment Weekly notes that it is the second freshman series that the CW has picked up for a full season, following the breakout hit Arrow.
Kreuk recently spoke about the series’ future with Access Hollywood, promising that there will be “some beautifully romantic moments” between her character, Catherine, and Ryan’s character, Vincent.
“The two of them [are] very honest with each other very quickly about how they feel, but they’re both so uncomfortable with all of it – especially him,” she said. “We’re gonna shoot one [romantic scene] this episode that’s gorgeous. This episode that we’re shooting right now is kind of like a fairytale, so there’s just these really lovely moments interspersed with drama that keeps them apart.”
The CW has yet to make a decision on Emily Owens M.D., a dramedy that has failed to draw strong ratings. The network’s other new show, The Carrie Diaries, will premiere on Jan. 14.
Beauty and the Beast airs at 9pm on Thursdays, right after The Vampire Diaries.
