Designer and Project Runway judge Michael Kors pledged on Monday to give $1 million to help with Hurricane Sandy relief, joining many other celebrities in relief effort.
Kors is donating the money to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund, according to Women’s Wear Daily.
“As a New York-based company, to see so many of our employees, customers and neighbors so greatly affected by Hurricane Sandy is unfathomable,” Kors stated. “Being a lifelong New Yorker myself, born and bred on the beaches of Long Island, to see this devastation and loss is heartbreaking. We are making this donation in hopes that we can help all those whose lives have been irrevocably altered by Hurricane Sandy.”
The Council of Fashion Designers of America and Vogue also promised to help with the relief effort with a fund-raiser called Fashion for Sandy Relief.
Michael Kors is one of the latest celebrities to donate money for the relief effort.
USA Today reports the Dave Matthews Band promised to give $1 million to the Bama Works Sandy Relief Fund. The money from their November 30 show in East Rutherford, N.J. will be donated, along with the merchandise sales.
MTV aired a special, Restore the Shore, on Thursday night to raise money. Many MTV actors showed their support and took calls, including cast members from Teen Wolf, Jersey Shore and Awkward. All of the donations will go to Architecture for Humanity.
